The Sizzle of Creativity and Passion of the Dancing Heritage: My Vigan's Longganisa Festival Experience

VIGAN'S  25TH  LONGGANISA  FESTIVAL  & CITYHOOD FESTIVAL

Every year, at exactly on January 22, the locals of Vigan celebrate a longganisa-themed festival. Longganisa is a local sausage with a creamy garlic flavor and a breakfast staple in the country. It is an annual, vibrant celebration held in Vigan City, Philippines, during the last week of January (around January 22–25) to honor the city's iconic garlic sausage. It features street dancing, culinary competitions, and a parade, celebrating the century-old, savory, garlicky tradition of making Vigan longganisa.

Just a few days after Longganisa Festival is the Vigan Town Fiesta. It is a week-long celebration in honor of St. Paul the Apostle that starts on January 25. This festival fills the streets of Vigan with colorful exhibits, carnivals, and locals performing street dances.

For my experience of this year's Longganisa Festival, I witnessed a lot of various scenes such like parade in January 22, which I did not expect to be that lively. It wasn't just another ordinary festival, It had a vibrant and lively atmosphere during the parade, which I was with my friends, which made it more enjoyable to be in the parade. It was one in a million, experience, the parade featured numerous participant from
different schools from Vigan Ciy. Not to mention, their vibrant customes which definitely suits the theme of Vigan's cuture, architecture and tradition; it all blends together which, personally made my experience truly special. Moreover, I've realized that this Festival was not just only about the celebration of Vigan's own original sausage, the longganisa but it is the unison of the people, which they create all of these wonderful, one of a kind Festivals. They showed the true essence of a ilocano citizen, having the warm hospitality, the kindness, generous and creative personality

After the Grand Parade of the Vigan Longganisa, the next following day, i went to experience the Clash of Talents which featured various performers, majority of them danced and sung, which based on the reaction of the crowd, they loved and enjoyed each one of their performance. The event drew a large crowd on Plaza Burgoz and highlighted the creativity and passion of local talents as part of the ongoing Longganisa Festival and 25th Cityhood Anniversary Celebration. Meanwhile, the event was further energize by the guest performers, Gigi De Lana and Dionela, who further entertained the whole crowd with their hit songs and stage performance.

January 25, Sunday, is the day of the Fiesta of Vigan, celebrating the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle, our beloved patron saint. It's the grand finale of grand final of week-long celebration, and the atmosphere in the Vigan streets is absolutely lively. From what i heard, It is the victory lap of the municipality's culture. Seeing the mix of Spanish colonial architecture and modern Ilocano vibrancy makes me grateful to witness all of these events.

Experiencing these vibrant and passionate events made me realize that; It isn't about just the delicious foods and lively parades but it is immersing myself in the rich culture and history of Vigan itself.
